A few years ago I saw an article about some women who hosted a Christmas cookie exchange party every year. It sounded like a fun idea to me and this year I finally did it. Yesterday 14 women came over with 6 dozen cookies each. We ate snacks, swapped cookies, and talked a lot!
Here's what I worked on last week:
I've read about Royal Icing and flooding cookies before; Martha Stewart had some good articles about icing cookies a few years ago - some really cute Noah's Ark animals. I have wanted to try it and finally went for it. I have a new appreciation for this art form - it's hard! But, I liked doing it and might do it again someday for birthday treats.
It turned out that everyone got to take 5 of each kind of cookie and then 2 more when everyone was done going around. No one rushed the table; we had a nice orderly exchange! I gave out some small prizes for smallest, largest, and most Christmasy cookies.
All in all, it was a lot of fun and I think I'll probably do it again next year.

So, you want to bring some of those down to FL with you? I've been eating rather poorly these last few days, and I may need some homemade goodness to get me ready for another semester... :)
Nice cookies! I made a decorated a batch myself this weekend after I finished my paper. A glass of wine, some frosting (I confess I didn't make my own, but I did hear all about Royal Icing on the Food Network this weekend--it's fat free!), some little decorations--it was fun! I must say, I enjoy making them more than eating them, which is good, but now I have to find people to give them away to!
I'm curious - I need to know about Royal icing and "flooding" - the cookies are beautiful! I have an exchange on Friday night, but don't think I'll get around to creating those kinds of gems.
Did you ever get to meet or talk with Shawna and Scott?
