My new project

Today I started sewing a quilt for Luke. We'll be moving him to his new room in a few months and I wanted to make a twin size quilt for his new room. I like the ones I've seen at Pottery Barn Kids with trucks and airplanes, but there aren't any that have a mixture of all kinds of vehicles. Plus, I'm a quilter and I didn't need too much of an excuse to start something new.

I found clip art pictures on the internet that I adapted into simple pictures. There are 28 blocks with airplanes, trains, helicopters, boats, cars, dump trucks, backhoes, bulldozers, cement mixers, and even one with an old car like Daddy's Ford in the garage.

This week I traced all of the patterns onto iron-on fusible paper. Today I cut out all the big background pieces. Then I started the fun work! I finished 2 blocks of some sort of front-end loader - quite easy and fun. I am trying to use a variety of fabrics, but so far it's mostly cotton and felt. I think it'll turn out pretty cute.

This one has felt wheels.

Most blocks have a plaid background (3 different plaids), but there is one with stripes and also a solid green and a solid blue. I tried to mix them up so it's not too busy.

Stay tuned for more - I think they'll go pretty quickly.

BONUS PICTURES

Luke and daddy looking at a book. He likes to "count" things now while pointing at them. Usually he just says, "Four, four, four, four," but it's pretty cute.

A favorite toy of the moment. Someone gave this little glove to Alec a year or so ago and Luke has figured out how it's supposed to go, although he usually puts his hand through the wrong opening. The ball was also a hand-me-down from who knows. Love those free toys!

"Look! I caught it!" It's a squishy ball and stays in the glove quite easily.

I love the picture of reading the book with Alec - can't wait for Thanksgiving! If you're into a new quilt project, hopefully that means you're feeling well and have some energy.

The quilt is going to be WONDERFUL. I'm already impressed with the idea and the pieces alone. You're so talented girl.
