Strange Night

Yesterday was strange. The morning was pretty normal for a Thursday - nothing going on so we stayed home. I sewed and did dishes, Luke colored and played. I put him down for his nap around 2:30 . . . and nothing. I heard him looking at books, playing with cars, singing, talking, but not sleeping. I went in a few times to lay him down again; after an hour I went in and laid down with him. He was so wired. I almost fell asleep, but when I peeked my eyes at him I saw a chubby fist coming forward to pinch (& pick) my nose. He just wasn't interested so I got him up.

He wasn't crabby at all. Quite the opposite! He was so hyper we were a little concerned. I kept trying to think if he'd eated anything different, but he hadn't had anything out of the ordinary. He talked non-stop through dinner (totally NOT understandable - he sounded like Boomhower from King of the Hill) and then ran around like a little banshee until bath time. We got him calmed down and in bed by 8:00 and I thought that was it.

Not.

At 11:30 or so I went up to bed and went in to his room first to make sure he was covered up and not falling out. I covered him and he moved around, which he generally does. However, just as I was about to leave he sat straight up in bed. I held back because I'd heard that sometimes kids do this in their sleep and if you wake them up they get messed up (don't wake up your kids in the middle of a nightmare or sleep-walking, either). I think he was semi-awake at this point, but he seemed really confused and disoriented and started to cry. And cry. And cry. For about an hour. He refused any suggestion I made and at times he looked terrified when he looked around his room - I thought maybe he'd woken in the middle of a dream and couldn't understand what happened or where he was. I went downstairs with him and we looked at the pictures on the refrigerator and around 12:15 he started to calm down. I brought him back up and laid with him for about 15 minutes until I knew he was almost asleep and he's been asleep since. It's 8:45 now and I'm starting to hear him move around.

I just hope this doesn't happen again any time soon - I guess if it does we'll deal with it, but sleep is going to be at a premium here soon. And I mean SOON.

That's so odd... could it be his new room and just woke up confused? I hope tonight is better for you both. Thanks so much for the Amazon gift!! I can't wait to read the book! Hang in there Kate!
