Last year my pastor told me a story about when he and his wife moved their family from Jamaica to New Jersey. They were so tired of all the violence in Jamaica that they decided their boys could not have any guns to play with. When they saw their boys eating their bread at lunch into the shape of guns, they decided water pistols would be OK.
Luke doesn't have any guns. I don't think he even knows the word. I do know that he's seen them on TV - often asks when we watch the news what is going on and why people are sad. We try to explain, but how do you tell a 2 year old about war?
Today I got out my cookie press to make some Christmas cookies. Wouldn't you know, held a certain way it looks like a gun. Luke played around with it for close to an hour while I made a different kind of cookie. He called it his "dangerous soldier thing" and went around "spraying" things with it, making a "psssssht" noise.

The faces are wonderful! "Dangerous soldier thing" sounds much better than "gun." At least he gets that it's not for fun!
Oh, but it is loads of fun. Hours and hours of self-play! Fun for mommy.
I'd say he looks more like a Musketeer or Captain Hook!
Oh dear. Just this weekend my friend told me that with preschool comes the gun play. Older kids are bad influences!
