Ah, spring

Today was great. One of those days where I think, "I wish every day was like this." Cool enough in the morning for a light sweater, warm enough in the afternoon for shorts but not hot enough to break out into a sweat. Unfortunately, Luke was sick in the morning (glad I had put him back in diapers, poor kid) so we ended up watching TV all morning. He felt better by lunch and so he played in the sandbox until it was nap time. Then when both kids woke up we took a walk to the "merry-go-round park," as Luke calls it - a little playground about a 15-minute walk from our house. All in all, a good day with few outbreaks from Luke.

This weather makes me want to read Robert Frost, so here is a good one for how I feel today (except about the bees - I smashed 2 big wasps while I was eating lunch in the backyard).

A Prayer in Spring
by Robert Frost

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
To which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends he will,
But which it only needs that we fulfill.
